Magna, Utah – Two men were arrested after authorities say they planted and attempted to ignite a bomb beneath a news media vehicle in Utah, prompting a large-scale evacuation and a federal investigation.
Police identified the suspects as Adeeb Nasir, 58, and Adil Justice Ahme Nasir, 31, both taken into custody Sunday at their Magna residence. Their home is less than an hour from the college where conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was assassinated last Wednesday.
Alleged Bomb Incident
- The explosive device was discovered Friday under a news van parked next to an occupied building.
- Officials said the incendiary device had been lit but failed to fully detonate.
- Because the target was a media-affiliated vehicle in a public area, the FBI quickly assumed jurisdiction once the device was confirmed real.
Federal Search and Seizure
Investigators traced the threat back to the suspects within 48 hours. A federal search warrant allowed agents to sweep the suspects’ residence, where they uncovered:
- Multiple hoax weapons of mass destruction
- Illegal drugs
- Two firearms the men were prohibited from owning due to narcotics use
When questioned, the suspects allegedly claimed the weapons were genuine, forcing an evacuation of the neighborhood and law enforcement teams. Experts later determined the items were fake.
Charges and Custody
- Adeeb Nasir faces multiple charges, including:
- Two counts of weapon of mass destruction
- Two counts of threat of terrorism
- He is being held in Salt Lake County Jail without bail.
- Adil Nasir has not yet been charged, though authorities say the investigation remains ongoing.
The exact relationship between the two men is unclear, but both resided in the same home.
