Tragedy Strikes Georgia Golf Course: Tree Falls, Killing Father and Son

IN MUSCOGEE COUNTY, Georgia – In Muscogee County, West Georgia, a father and son were killed when a tree that had fallen as a result of the severe storms that occurred over the weekend.

According to the authorities, the incident that resulted in the death of four people took place on Sunday afternoon at the Bull Creek Golf Course in Midland, Georgia.

Both Matthew Terrell Collins Sr., who was 58 years old, and Matthew Terrell Collins Jr., who was 29 years old, have been identified as the victims, according to the Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan, who spoke with WTVM.

According to the authorities, the father and son were attempting to take shelter from the storm in their golf cart at approximately six o’clock in the evening when the tree fell on top of them.

It was determined that both guys had passed away at the spot.

According to the Columbus Police Department, they will conduct an investigation into the death, but they suspect that the tree fell as a result of the weather.

As a response to the news, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp expressed his dismay on the social media platform X, describing the fatalities as “tragic.”

“Marty, the girls, and I are saddened by the tragic deaths of two Georgians in Muscogee County today as a result of the severe weather,” Kemp expressed in his letter. “We ask that you join us in keeping their loved ones in our thoughts and prayers, along with all those responding to storm damage.”

In the Cohutta Wilderness, four campers were ensnared when a tree collapsed on their campground the day before. The campsite was located at Panther Creek Falls.

Reportedly, the tree was responsible for the death of one camper and injured another. The names of those who were killed have not been made publicly available.
