This Week In Austin: The Dems have left the house…

Written by Rita Cookhttps://texasmetronews.com/Texas Metro News

I informed readers last week that the Texas Special Session, which started on July 21, might see some redistricting done in the middle of the decade.

Republicans are accused of snatching seats through this redistricting process in order to increase the red alignment.

In all honesty, some Republican lawmakers believe that Dustin Burrows, the new Speaker of the House, is already siding with the Democrats, so does it really matter?

But that’s really not the point.

Regardless of one’s political stance, redistricting at random is unacceptable.

It is an additional method of fostering division.

The fact that the powerful egos are triumphing over the wishes of those who elected them is likewise a serious warning.

Does anyone have the responsibility of advocating for Texas’s best interests?

I told one of my Republican friends about redistricting and stated, “This is incorrect because redistricting is done every ten years in tandem with the census, not on a whim.”

According to my red friend, Republicans are entitled to do it since Democrats consistently do it.

What does “always” actually mean?

I should also clarify that I’m not attempting to disparage the red or blue parties. I think it is improper for any party to use dubious tactics in an attempt to increase the number of seats in their district.

I made the decision to find out when the last mid-decade redistricting was conducted just to be sure.

My red-haired pal was mistaken.

She probably listened to a buddy who was ignorant of the subject or to a news article that prioritized narrative over facts, just like a lot of people from both parties.

Now that the extraordinary session is over, the Democrats—that is, the Democratic Caucus—have left the house.

Rep. Gene Wu, the chair of the Texas House Democratic Caucus, claims We are going to look for adults to go talk to because Governor Abbott is behaving like a child.

They have therefore traveled to Illinois for a brief meeting with Governor Pritzker.

To put it another way, because they are not getting their way, they have taken their toys and abandoned their constituents like kids.

To be clear, nobody seems to care about Texans in general, and the red team chose to play this game as well.

According to Wu, we’re going to states that are already coping with the consequences of the billions of dollars that Trump’s supporters forced on us. To shield Texas families from the harm that Trump and his supporters have caused and still cause, we need the governor to have a solid plan. Whether you are an Independent, Democrat, or Republican, we all know that you did not vote for this extreme agenda.

Is he referring to the right or left’s radical agenda?

As far as I can tell, Texas State Representatives are not in Austin having big boy and girl conversations, which is where a compromise will be found from both sides, so traveling to Illinois for answers is not going to help them come up with a strategy.

In the meantime, Texans are receiving nothing, let me remind you.

What will a meeting with officials from other states accomplish, especially California and Illinois? More division and financial waste are the only results of this.

At the next election, we should replace the red and blue parties with people who can get along, like adults, if these politicians can’t get along.

Indeed, this unique session will cover additional themes.

Representative Rafael Anch, who is leading the group to meet with Governor Newsom in California, stated that the floods in Central Texas had left dozens of children dead and people missing. However, Donald Trump’s primary goal is to influence elections in order to benefit himself.

So the solution is to send a delegation to California?

No!

Additionally, trying to evoke people’s emotions is not the solution. In order to find a compromise and turn the reactive games into proactive solutions, you need to be big boys and girls and stand up to Governor Greg Abbott for what you believe in.

Why must all red and blue issues be incompatible?

Because it prevents Texans from taking a breath by maintaining division and dread.

Anyone may fabricate a tale to support their position, but can they actually develop a story and a course of action that works for the people they are representing?

By the way, according to what I can discover in my study, Texas last had a mid-decade redistricting in 2003. The Republicans gained five more seats in the U.S. House as a result of the GOP’s action.
