Texas Son Charged After Mother Found Stabbed, 4-Year-Old Located Following Missouri Amber Alert

Mansfield, Texas — A 20-year-old North Texas man has been charged with murder, aggravated kidnapping and vehicle theft after police say he fatally stabbed his mother and fled the state with a missing 4-year-old child, triggering an Amber Alert in Missouri.

According to the Mansfield Police Department, officers were dispatched shortly before 9 a.m. on Jan. 31 to a home in the 200 block of Cotton Drive after a family member reported finding 63-year-old Andrea Colgrove unresponsive inside the residence.

Emergency responders arrived and pronounced Colgrove dead at the scene.

Autopsy confirms homicide

Investigators later confirmed that Colgrove died from a stab wound to the neck, and her death was officially ruled a homicide.

During their investigation, officers learned that Colgrove had legal guardianship of her 4-year-old grandson, who was missing from the home. A tan 2009 Toyota Corolla was also reported missing.

Authorities quickly identified Colgrove’s son, 20-year-old Raymond Carmona, as a suspect in both the homicide and the child’s disappearance.

Amber Alert issued in Missouri

Detectives determined the missing vehicle had likely traveled into Missouri. Law enforcement in Missouri was asked to issue an Amber Alert later that same day.

The Toyota Corolla was entered into state and national stolen vehicle databases as authorities worked across state lines to locate the child and suspect.

Shortly after the Amber Alert was issued, Missouri law enforcement officers located the vehicle with Carmona and the child inside.

At approximately 2:40 p.m. on Jan. 31, the child was found safe. Carmona was taken into custody without further incident. The child was later released into the care of Child Protective Services, according to police.

Suspect allegedly admitted involvement

Detectives from the Mansfield Police Department traveled to Missouri to interview Carmona. Authorities said he admitted to being involved in his mother’s death.

Carmona has since been formally charged with:

  • Murder
  • Aggravated kidnapping
  • Theft of property (motor vehicle)

He is currently being held at the Tarrant County Jail, where his bond has been set at more than $1 million.

Multi-state effort praised

Mansfield police credited the Missouri Highway Patrol and Arkansas Highway Patrol for assisting in the safe recovery of the child and apprehension of the suspect.

“This case is a powerful example of law enforcement professionals across state lines working together to protect our communities and diligently serve victims of crime,” Mansfield PD said in a statement.

Authorities have not publicly clarified Carmona’s exact relationship to the child beyond confirming that Colgrove had legal guardianship.
