NORTH TEXAS – A lot of people from Texas are helping North Carolina, Tennessee, and Florida get back on their feet after the storm.
They were sent out with Texans on Mission in groups of more than 250.
“Some of the towns up in the mountain are gone because the trees that fell wiped them out,” said Wendell.
Romans, who is in charge of chainsaws for Texans on Mission, just got back to Texas after helping people heal from Hurricane Helene in North Carolina and Tennessee.
“They’re really upset. They’ll never get better, I think. Tennessee will never be the same in some places. “This is likely the worst disaster I’ve been to in the twelve years I’ve been doing this,” he said.
He is one of many people from DFW who have been sent to disaster areas by Texans on Mission.
He is in charge of the knife. They remove trees and other junk for free as they go from door to door.
“That’s when they finally get it, and I cry with them.” Romes said, “I have a soft heart, and that’s what we do.”
He thinks people will have to move to find a new place to live if they want to rebuild after the damage.
“They’ll build again.” “Because there was so much damage where they were, I think it will be somewhere else,” he said.
There are still Texans on Mission in all three states. Romans will go to Florida to help with the cleanup after Hurricane Milton if he gets a call. He wants to get at least a little rest though.
“My wife is excited to have me home, and I’m ready for some time off.” He said, “The dog didn’t bite me when I came in, so I guess that’s a good start.”
