Teen Sentenced to 7 Years for Beating Disabled DC Man Reggie Brown to Death

According to sources, one of five girls, ages 12 to 15, who were engaged in the beating death of Reggie Brown, 64, a disabled woman from Washington, D.C., will remain in prison until she becomes 21.

On Wednesday, the 13-year-old received a sentence of around seven years in prison. According to the local TV station, she apologized in court before receiving her sentence.

“It saddens me that these young girls could be so brutal and do something so severe,” said one of the victim’s sisters, Malda Brown, after sentence in court. “I’m just grateful that the judge did give them the time that D.C. commits until to 21, so we are grateful for that. It’ll make my mom feel so much better once we get home to let her know that that did take place.”

“DYRS is letting these kids back out with no consequences, in and out the door and get slapped on the wrist and come back out and do the same thing again. Committing more violent crimes? I mean it’s sad that our children have to be incarcerated, but it’s also sad that the danger that they pose to the community — what they do to people and the things that they do to people,” another one of Brown’s sisters, Nasia Israel stated. “My brother didn’t deserve that. Nobody deserves that.”

Man Arrested for Murder Following Woman’s Fatal Fentanyl Overdose

One of the teenage suspects, who pleaded guilty in October, said that she and the other suspects carried out the assault because they “were bored” and seeking something to do around the time of Brown’s October 2023 attack.

Just before one in the morning on October 17, 2023, officers were called to the 6200 block of Georgia Avenue after receiving a report of a man down, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. Officers discovered Brown suffering from injuries consistent with an assault. He passed away right there.

Along with two of the other suspects, the eldest defendant, a 15-year-old, pleaded guilty and was given a three-year prison sentence for assault with a deadly weapon. She had stated in court that she had planned the attack on the guy, whose relatives claimed he was weak and had fought cancer just before passing away.

The females headed toward Georgia Avenue and Sheridan Street in the Brightwood district of Washington, D.C., at approximately 11 p.m.

According to the girl, they encountered an unidentified male who was already assaulting Brown, who was laying on the ground, when they arrived at the crossing.

According to the 15-year-old’s testimony, she asked the man if they might assist in beating up Brown, and he granted her request.

She told the court that as the man was talking to the teenagers, they started following Brown, who tried to run away.
