A teenage boy is currently in critical condition at a hospital following an alleged hit-and-run incident in Texas.
A 16-year-old boy was biking along East Louetta Road in Spring, Texas, a suburb of Houston, on November 3 when he was hit by a car going in the same direction, according to a statement from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office shared with PEOPLE on November 14.
“The incident resulted in the young male being thrown from his bicycle and landing on the road,” the statement indicated.
The sheriff’s office reported that the driver left the scene in a white or gray sedan. Authorities have indicated that the investigation is still active, with efforts underway to secure surveillance footage from nearby businesses to assist in determining the make and model of the vehicle involved.
Authorities have not disclosed the identity of the boy or his current condition; however, his mother has identified him as 16-year-old Devin Yelle, according to Fox 13 Houston. Tiffany Trusty, the boy’s mother, shared with the outlet that her son is currently in the hospital battling for his life following a traumatic brain injury.
“That’s my baby, and you just abandoned him on the side of the road like he was nothing,” Trusty said, confronting the driver accused of the hit-and-run, according to Fox 13.
The young boy, who can still communicate, expressed his gratitude to the community for their supportive messages in a statement shared by the outlet, saying, “Please catch the person who did this.”
