Birmingham, Alabama.Fans of the Southwestern Athletic Conference will be able to watch their favorite teams play without a cable sports package starting next month.

The Southwestern Athletic Conference will introduce SWAC TV, a free streaming service that will show games in all 18 of the league’s sports, on August 1. The launch is an HBCU sports conference’s most recent attempt to increase its media reach outside of conventional broadcast relationships.

On August 30, there will be a football tripleheader for the debut. Texas Southern vs. Prairie View A&M and Langston vs. Grambling State are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET, while Southern will visit Mississippi Valley State at 5 p.m. ET.

According to SWAC Commissioner Dr. Charles McClelland, the launch of SWAC TV is definitely a game-changer for the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

While some college conferences provide streaming services, the majority demand cable or subscriptions. The league’s teams benefit from increased visibility and reliable coverage in all sports thanks to SWAC TV’s open access.

According to McClelland, “for the first time in history, our fans and supporters will have access to a top-notch, cutting-edge streaming platform that is exclusively focused on broadcasting live events and providing high-definition, on-demand league content.”

Podcasts, sports discussion shows, live events, and original programming will all be available on the site. Major streaming services including Roku, Amazon Fire, Apple TV, Google Play, and Android TV will provide it.

All of the conference’s football games will be broadcast on ESPN, HBCU GO, or SWAC TV, McClelland continued.

During the initial season, 45 games are planned to be streamed. Football coverage of Alabama State’s Turkey Day Classic Tuskegee will come to an end on November 27 at 3 p.m. ET.

“We can’t wait to reveal it,” McClelland stated. Additionally, it will be a chance for our Olympic and women’s sports to be shown nationally.

The debut comes as interest in HBCU athletics is rising, especially in football, where teams have drawn well-known coaches and modernized facilities.
