Suspect in Custody at Border Crossing; Accused of Killing Ex-Girlfriend in Morgan Hill

Martin Mendoza Jr., the man named a person of interest in the killing of 18-year-old Marissa DiNapoli, was arrested Monday on suspicion of murder after allegedly trying to return to the United States from Mexico.

DiNapoli had been reported missing on June 30, and her body was found two days later near Anderson Lake in Morgan Hill. Her death has left the community grieving and her family asking for privacy as they mourn their tragic loss.

  • Taken into custody at the California-Mexico Border Crossing
  • Initially detained Sunday in Imperial County, near the border
  • Was on a no-bail hold in El Centro before formal arrest

  • Last texted family on Saturday, saying she’d stay overnight with a friend
  • Did not return home Sunday and didn’t respond to calls
  • Last seen around 9:45 a.m. Sunday with Mendoza
  • Both were reportedly seen leaving a home on Trail Drive, near Morgan Hill
  • DiNapoli’s car was found nearby
