Torrey, Utah — Authorities have arrested a suspect following a multi-state manhunt after three women were found dead in southern Utah, according to officials.
Investigators with the Utah Department of Public Safety said the suspect was taken into custody Thursday in Colorado after fleeing the state in a victim’s vehicle.
The arrest followed a search that stretched across multiple states and prompted heightened safety alerts for residents in the region.
Bodies Found in Multiple Locations
Authorities say the investigation began after three women were discovered dead in Wayne County, Utah.
Two of the victims were found in separate locations along a hiking trail, while the third woman was discovered inside a home in Torrey, a small community in south-central Utah.
Officials said the victims were women in their 30s, 60s, and 80s, though their identities have not yet been publicly released.
Investigators have not disclosed how the victims were connected or what circumstances led to their deaths.
The case remains under active investigation as authorities work to establish the timeline and motive behind the killings.
Suspect Fled Across Multiple States
According to investigators, the suspect fled Utah in a vehicle belonging to one of the victims.
Authorities tracked the vehicle traveling through Utah, Arizona, and Colorado, according to reports. Police later located the abandoned car — a white Subaru Outback — in the town of Pagosa Springs.
After an extensive search in the surrounding area, officers located and arrested the suspect without incident, officials said.
Authorities Say Public Is No Longer at Risk
Following the arrest, officials said there are no outstanding suspects connected to the case.
“There are no ongoing threats to the public, and investigators have no outstanding suspects,” the Utah Department of Public Safety said in a statement.
Officials have not yet released the suspect’s name or additional details about possible charges.
Schools Closed During Manhunt
Before the suspect was captured, authorities urged residents to remain alert as the search continued. As a precaution, schools across Wayne County were closed for the remainder of the week.
Officials said the decision was made out of an abundance of caution to protect students and the community.
Area Near Popular National Park
The town of Torrey sits near several major outdoor recreation areas, including Capitol Reef National Park and the nearby Dixie National Forest and Fishlake National Forest.
The region is known for hiking, camping, and tourism, making the discovery of the victims particularly alarming for local residents and visitors.
Investigation Continues
Authorities say detectives are continuing to gather evidence and determine how the three victims were connected. Officials have not yet released information about the cause of death, the suspect’s relationship to the victims, or a possible motive.
The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement works to piece together the events leading up to the killings.
