Nebraska, Omaha – The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the southeast region of Nebraska, the far southwest region of Iowa, the northeast region of Kansas, and the far northwest region of Missouri until three in the morning on Wednesday on account of a significant weather system.
The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center issued a watch on Tuesday evening, which warns of the chance of scattered large hail with a diameter of up to 2.5 inches, destructive wind gusts of up to 80 miles per hour, and up to two tornadoes. Due to the passage of a cold front through the region overnight, it is anticipated that thunderstorms may become more intense.
Residents are strongly encouraged to maintain vigilance, develop several channels via which they can receive alerts, and seek shelter in the event that severe weather is on the horizon.
