Two hundred households in Sacramento County, California, that were picked to receive a direct monthly payment of $725 were cut off from the Families First Economic Support Pilot Program (FFESP).
These funds were supposed to be sent out in four installments, from December 15, 2024, to November 15, 2025. However, the delay in distribution harmed the whole program, and it’s clear that the installment that was supposed to arrive on March 15, 2025, has also not come.
What does the FFESP do?
The FFESP is meant to help low-income families in the county with money so that they don’t have to go through the child welfare system and have to deal with financial problems.
The goal of this trial program is to fight the economic instability that causes problems in families and causes the government to step in when child neglect is found in the home.
Why haven’t the riches been spread out?
As more information comes in, some things are becoming clearer from the source: A representative for Sacramento County said that none of the payments have been made, even though they were supposed to start in December. The government said quickly that the program is being updated and that there will be a new payment schedule, but they didn’t say why there were problems.
Families who are waiting for their money had to apply through a drawing system that ended on October 13. The lottery chose 200 families in six ZIP codes in Sacramento County to receive the aid: 95815, 95821, 95823, 95825, 95828, and 95838.
