Steve Pagliuca congratulates new Celtics ownership group after sale is finalized

Steve Pagliuca congratulated the new ownership group on social media when it was announced that the Celtics’ sale was completed on Tuesday, enabling Bill Chisholm to assume management of the team.

Pagliuca has been a co-owner of the Celtics since he was a member of the investment group that paid $360 million for the team in 2002. In March, his offer to buy the team was rejected in favor of Chisholm.

Pagliuca added in the release, “Congratulations to Bill Chisholm and all of the new and existing investors on the closing of the Celtics transaction today.” They will be great custodians of the franchise in the future, and they are an amazing set of leaders.

The Celtics’ success has always been and will always be the most important thing to me as a lifelong Celtics supporter and as a co-owner and management partner for the past 23 years. Through the Shamrock Foundation, my wife Judy and four kids, who were raised as Celtics supporters, were wholeheartedly behind me, the team, and our neighborhood. Their unwavering support added to the journey’s specialness. In addition, I will always be appreciative of the New England fans’ love for the team and generosity for my family and me.

Congratulations to Bill Chisholm and his group on the Celtics deal’s completion. I’ve included my thoughts on this significant news in the statement below.x9fDeN8pLz pic.twitter.com/

In March, Pagliu informed the Globe that he would be searching for chances with other professional sports teams. He made an offer earlier this month to buy the Connecticut Sun for $325 million and relocate the WNBA team to Boston. However, the WNBA released a statement stating that the WNBA Board of Governors, not individual teams, makes relocation choices after the Globe revealed Pagliuca’s offer.

The league would like to give Boston an expansion franchise, most likely in 2033, according to a source who spoke to the Globe.
