Miami-Dade County, Florida—Investigators say a drunken driver traveling at nearly 100 miles per hour ran a red light in a Tesla Cybertruck and crashed into two vehicles, killing a woman in a violent collision that unfolded during the morning commute.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the suspect later turned himself in and now faces DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide charges in connection with the deadly crash.
Crash Happened During Morning Traffic
Deputies identified the suspect as Dayron Ramirez-Mesa, 21, of southwest Miami-Dade. Investigators say the crash occurred just before 8:15 a.m. on December 14 in the unincorporated Kendale Lakes area.
Ramirez-Mesa was driving westbound on Southwest 56th Street when he ran a red light at 122nd Avenue, according to authorities. At the intersection, his Cybertruck sideswiped a Toyota 4Runner and then T-boned a Hyundai Sonata as the vehicles attempted to make left turns.
“The suspect entered the intersection at an extremely high rate of speed and struck two vehicles,” deputies said.
Victim Died From Severe Injuries
Investigators said the driver of the Hyundai, Dayana Abreu Perez, suffered critical injuries in the crash. She was rushed to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Authorities did not report life-threatening injuries to the occupants of the other vehicle involved.
“This was a completely preventable crash caused by reckless and impaired driving,” deputies said.
Vehicle Data Reveals Extreme Speed
According to arrest documents, internal data recovered from the Tesla Cybertruck revealed the suspect was traveling at 97 miles per hour just three seconds before impact.
Investigators also noted that Ramirez-Mesa showed clear signs of impairment at the scene.
- Strong odor of alcohol
- Bloodshot, watery eyes
- Failed indicators of sobriety
A series of blood tests later confirmed those observations.
Blood Alcohol Level More Than Double Legal Limit
Deputies said the first of three blood draws measured Ramirez-Mesa’s blood alcohol content at 0.18%, which is more than twice Florida’s legal limit.

“Driving at that speed while impaired created an extreme danger to everyone on the roadway,” investigators stated.
Authorities said the combination of excessive speed and intoxication played a direct role in the fatal outcome.
Suspect Turns Himself In
Ramirez-Mesa turned himself in Thursday at the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Headquarters in Doral. He was then transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
As of Friday, jail records showed he remained in custody on a $75,000 bond.
Strict Conditions Ordered if Released
A judge imposed strict conditions should Ramirez-Mesa post bond.
Those conditions include:
- House arrest
- No-driving order
- Ongoing court supervision
“The defendant is prohibited from operating any motor vehicle,” the judge ordered.
Court records did not indicate when Ramirez-Mesa is expected to return to court.
Community Impact and Ongoing Investigation
The crash has renewed concerns across Miami-Dade about reckless speeding and impaired driving, particularly involving high-performance vehicles.
Deputies emphasized that vehicle technology does not reduce responsibility behind the wheel.
“No matter the car, impaired driving at this speed is a deadly decision,” officials said.
The investigation remains active as prosecutors prepare the case.
