On Wednesday, the Providence Bruins announced the addition of Ryan Bourque as an assistant coach to Ryan Mougenel’s staff, rounding out their coaching staff.
The son of Bruins great Ray Bourque, Bourque joins Boston’s AHL affiliate’s assistant-coach group, which also includes goalie coach Mike Dunham and Trent Whitfield.
Having participated in 585 AHL games over nine seasons with Connecticut/Hartford, Hershey, Bridgeport, and Charlotte, Bourque has a wealth of AHL experience. During that time, he accumulated 203 points overall and scored 85 goals.
After being selected in the third round by the New York Rangers in 2009, the native of Topsfield had one NHL appearance with the Blueshirts in the 2014–15 campaign.
In addition to coaching with the South Carolina Stingrays in the ECHl from 2021–2023, Bourque has some coaching experience as an assistant coach with the U.S. National Team Development Program in 2023–2024.
At his alma mater, Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Bourque served as the head coach of the boys’ hockey team this past season.
Since 2023, Conor Ryan has worked as a staff writer for Boston.com, covering the Boston Bruins, Celtics, Patriots, and Red Sox.
