Social Security payments for July 2025 are being distributed according to the standard schedule set by the Social Security Administration (SSA). However, some recipients could notice reduced payments this month.
That’s because the SSA is expected to begin withholding 50% of benefits from individuals who were overpaid but have not started repayment. Although the SSA hasn’t disclosed how many people are affected, data shows it sought to recover overpayments from approximately 2 million recipients in fiscal year 2023.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a federal assistance program designed for individuals aged 65 or older, or those who are blind or disabled and have limited income and resources. Eligible adults generally must not earn over $2,019 per month in wages, although limits can vary based on household and disability status.
Those receiving Social Security benefits in July are advised to check their payments closely, especially if they suspect they may have been overpaid in the past. The SSA’s full payment calendar for 2025 and 2026 is available online for those who want to plan their finances accordingly
