Eureka, CA – A winter weather storm will blanketing Northern California’s Trinity County in heavy snow and windy conditions, making hazardous road travel to the region likely throughout early Friday.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 5 a.m. Thursday through 8 a.m. Friday for Northern Trinity County, including Highway 3 at Scott Mountain Pass, according to the National Weather Service in Eureka. Up to 8 inches of snow and 45 mph wind gusts are anticipated by forecasters along higher elevations.
The advisory cautions that roads will be slippery and hazardous, especially in mountainous regions. Motorists are advised to reduce speed and anticipate low visibility and slippery roads. Tree limbs can also fall from high winds, creating further hazards on rural roads and mountain passes.
The advisory follows as late-season snow storms are still affecting Northern California’s inland areas, where March snowfall is not unusual but still causes huge travel disruptions. Local authorities advise calling 5-1-1 to get road conditions and taking extra time to travel while the advisory is in effect.
Trinity County residents and visitors need to remain vigilant, keep an eye on weather reports, and have emergency supplies available in the event of travel disruption or power outages due to wind damage.
