Police say another foot pursuit ensued after the remaining women escaped when another officer approached them behind a Pleasant Street store. The remaining suspects, including two women who allegedly tried to escape over a nearby river, were eventually apprehended by officers.
According to a statement from Norwood Police Chief Christopher Padden, all six suspects in the break-in were apprehended as a result of the concerted efforts of on-duty officers, specialist units, and mutual aid partners.
Police said discovered two of the women’s fingerprints were distorted or concealed throughout the booking procedure. Homeland Security Investigations collaborated with Norwood officials to verify the women’s identities.
Numerous charges, including breaking and entering during the day with intent to commit a felony, conspiracy, possession of burglarious instruments, and resisting arrest, are pending against Mirabela Caldararu, 42; Jajela Chiciu, 41; Flavia Caldararu, 22; Emilia Sardaru, 36; Mihaela Ion, 33; and Elizabeth Sardaru, 21. According to police, all six reside in Maryland, and several of them had outstanding warrants for related felonies from other jurisdictions. The women were given $5,000 cash bail apiece when they were arraigned in Dedham District Court on Monday.
According to Norwood police, three of the ladies were arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement as soon as they posted bail after being informed of the arrests. According to police, two male relatives who came to the courthouse to post bail were also taken into custody by ICE.
Hearings for all six women are scheduled for September 12.
Padden praised the exceptional police work, interagency cooperation, and teamwork that resulted in the successful and safe capture of all six suspects.
