A 46-year-old man was detained on suspicion of murder after a woman was discovered dead at her home in Shingletown on Thursday.
At 9:40 p.m., Shasta County sheriff’s deputies responded to a home in the 34000 block of Side Bottom Road in Shingletown and discovered a lady who had already died from a gunshot wound, according to the sheriff’s office.
According to the sheriff’s office, Joseph Colin Scribner was also at the house when deputies arrived and informed them that he was present when the shooting occurred.
Scribner was interviewed by officers from the sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit and eventually arrested on suspicion of murder. Sheriff’s officials claimed they didn’t know what caused the shooting or what the motive was.
Scribner was brought into the Shasta County Jail on Friday and was being held on a $1 million bail. His arraignment is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Officials said the woman’s name would be suppressed until her family was notified of her death.
The sheriff’s office stated investigators are still investigating and encouraged anyone with information to call 530-245-6135 or email [email protected].
