According to the United States Attorney’s Office, five individuals on charges related to a sextortion scheme that resulted in the death of a teenager in the state of Michigan have entered guilty pleas.
Dinsimore Guyton Robinson, age 29, from Huntsville, Alabama; Kendall Ormond London, age 32, from Lithonia, Georgia; Brian Keith Coldmon Jr., age 30, from Peachtree Corners, Georgia; Jarell Daivon Williams, age 31, from McDonough, Georgia; and Johnathan Demetrius Green, age 32, from Stone Mountain, Georgia were the five individuals who were identified.
The individuals have been charged with plotting to launder money for “sextortionists” from Nigeria, according to officials belonging to the federal government. Samuel and Samson Ogoshi, both of Nigeria, were sentenced to 17 years in jail after being accused with conspiracy to sexually exploit juveniles. Samuel Ogoshi, who is 24 years old, and Samson Ogoshi, who is 21 years old, are brothers.
More than one hundred individuals were the targets of the plan, one of whom was Jordan DeMay, a student from Marquette, Michigan, who was 17 years old. In March of 2022, DeMay took his own life and died.
Sextortionists allegedly collected nude photographs from young men and boys and then demanded that their victims give money to five individuals via internet payment platforms. This information was obtained from the authorities. Once the money was collected, it would be sent to a person from Nigeria who was known as “The Plug.” The five guys would receive the money.
A press release states that the five men kept twenty percent of the money, changed it into Bitcoin, and then submitted it to The Plug. The Plug then took a portion of the money before delivering the remaining piece to the sextortionists.
According to the Acting United States Attorney for the State of Michigan, Andrew Birge, “These individuals helped and profited from this awful, heartbreaking scheme, and as a result, they will now find themselves facing the consequences.” The conspiracy charge carries a maximum sentence of twenty years in prison for the offender. It is the responsibility of the court to determine the penalties after considering the federal sentencing guidelines as well as the specific circumstances of each case.
