Severe Weather Strikes Alabama: Two Tornadoes Confirmed in Central Counties

Birmingham, AL – Two tornadoes resulted from severe storm activity on April 6, 2025, confirmed the National Weather Service after surveys to assess damages occurred on April 7. These tornadoes happened in Dallas and Barbour counties.

A tornado, an EF-1 with winds of 95 mph, according to the NWS, struck in the Sixmile Creek section of Dallas County around 10:13 a.m. It moved for 1.32 miles, crossing Tyler and concluding around 10:15 a.m. A second tornado, an EF-0 with winds of 60 mph, struck the Star Hill section of Barbour County at 10:21 p.m. The path of this tornado was significantly shorter, lasting only two minutes and covering 0.48 miles.

Residents in the two counties are being asked to stay vigilant about possible additional weather effects as the recovery process commences. NWS specialists are still assessing the complete effect of the storm on local communities. For continuous updates, residents are advised to refer to official weather reports.
