Severe Weather Alert: Central Alabama Faces Tornado Risk and 60 MPH Winds Sunday to Monday

Birmingham, AL – Another round of severe weather is expected to affect Central Alabama late Sunday into early Monday, with threats including tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham said storms will start late Sunday night and continue into Monday morning over a wide swath of the state, including Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Montgomery, and surrounding communities. Forecasters said wind gusts of as much as 60 mph are possible, along with isolated tornadoes and hail an inch or more in diameter.

The NWS stresses that the timing and strength of the storms will be more defined as the system closes in. Citizens are advised to stay tuned throughout the weekend and take necessary preparations.

Officials advise having several options to obtain weather warnings, particularly at night. Determine your closest shelter point ahead of time and charge mobile devices in advance of storms starting. Residents of mobile homes and susceptible buildings should develop a strategy to move to a secure area if tornado warnings are posted.
