With the deadline drawing near, Jarren Duran’s trade speculations have continued, but he isn’t worried about them.
After the Red Sox’s 4-2 victory over the Dodgers on Saturday, Duran said that he hasn’t been following the latest speculations regarding him. Duran has really become so disinterested in trade deadline discussions that he had to ask reporters the day of the deadline.
When asked how he felt about being involved in trade speculations, Duran told reporters, “To be honest, that’s probably one of the things I actually don’t stress about.” It’s beyond my control. Thus, if it occurs, it does. However, I don’t use social media sites like Twitter or anything similar. Thus, I don’t really see any of that stuff.
Every now and then, my dad gives me a nudge to keep me on my toes, as if I wouldn’t alert him [if a deal] occurs. He’s like, Did this really happen? For now, it’s all rumors, so I’m just going to keep having fun with my guys. If it happens, it happens.
In terms of the Red Sox’s long-term outfield intentions, Duran has sometimes been regarded as the odd man out. But according to a number of recent sources, Duran will stay in Boston past Thursday’s trade deadline. Sean McAdam of MassLive stated that the Red Sox had rejected a Padres offer for pitcher Dylan Cease, but Alex Speier of the Boston Globes later claimed that no such offer was ever made.
Furthermore, Bob Nightengaler of USA Today said that the Red Sox have no intention of trading Duan before the deadline on Thursday.
Even while it looks like Duran will stay in Boston for the remainder of the 2025 season, it’s still unclear what the Red Sox will do with him after that. Duran will probably still be moved by Boston eventually. At 29, Duran is the oldest Red Sox regular starter in the outfield, but he will have three years of team control after the 2025 season.
After striking out the Dodgers with two RBI and two triples, Jarren Duran said, “I’ve always been a Red Sox fan.”image.twitter.com/ZC38wUUWL3
Duran is currently focused on the here and now and isn’t particularly fond of the team’s approach to the trade deadline.
Fantastic if they add. “Wonderful if they don’t,” Duran said. We’re going to play with what we have because we love our squad. Nothing is within our control. We simply need to have faith that whatever they do will benefit the team the most.
Prior to the trade deadline, the Red Sox have set themselves up to be buyers. They are 56-50 going into Sunday’s series finale against the Dodgers, one half-game ahead of the last wild card slot.
Craig Breslow, the Red Sox’s chief baseball officer, has often said that the team plans to make a significant addition before Thursday. In an effort to complete the roster and address those two areas of need, they have primarily been linked to starting pitchers and first basemen.
Additionally, trading Duran would go against the Red Sox buyer’s strategy. Duran has been effective this season even if he might end up being the odd man out in the long run. With nine home runs, 55 RBIs, and a.768 OPS, he is hitting.259. In addition, he hit two triples on Saturday, bringing his season total to a league-high 12.
One of the few factors that allowed the Red Sox to salvage their season after a difficult June finale was Duran’s comeback at the plate in July. Duran claims that the Red Sox clubhouse now believes they can make a long playoff run as a result of their recent run.
“I adore this group,” Duran remarked. In my opinion, we do everything. We are capable of hitting home runs. We are able to run. We’re athletic. We’re young. The best thing about being so young is that we can laugh and joke around, flush it, and move on to the next game if we lose the challenging one.
