Red Sox announce signing of top pick Kyson Witherspoon, 15 other draft selections

Red Sox sign first-round pick

: The

Red Sox

announced on Sunday that the team has signed 16 of its 2025 draft picks, including first-rounder Kyson Witherspoon.

Witherspoon, 20, is a right-handed pitcher who has been

described

as having “just [scratched] the surface of how good he can be” by former Rockies GM Dan O’Dowd.

The selection of Witherspoon 15th overall was

generally praised by experts

, who noted that he was

one of the top pitchers in college baseball

.

originally from Newton

The moment for Scottie Scheffler

: The 29-year-old clinched his second major of the year, and a third leg of a career grand slam following the Sunday win in The Open Championship.

Red Sox back in the win column

: After dropping the first two games of the post-All-Star break run, the Red Sox got a timely win thanks partly to another strong start from Garrett Crochet.

On this day

: In 2004, amid what was objectively a bad moment for the Red Sox as David Newhan of the Orioles sprinted all the way around the bases for an inside-the-park home run, Manny Ramirez created an iconic piece of Boston baseball lore.

Opting to insert himself in as an unorthodox (and unnecessary) cut-off, it became one of the more humorous “Manny being Manny” moments.

Daily highlight

: German goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger, whose

story is remarkable in its own right

, made one of the saves of the year (or possibly any year) in the

eventual win over France

in the quarterfinals of the Women’s Euros over the weekend.

THAT incredible AKB save 🤯
