Following a cold beginning to the week, western Pennsylvania is preparing for a warm and sunny weekend. Temperatures are expected to rise into the low- to mid-70s by Sunday, with a much-needed shot of spring for cities such as Pittsburgh, Latrobe, New Castle, and Washington.
As per the National Weather Service Pittsburgh, the area will experience a consistent increase in temperatures from Thursday to the weekend. Pittsburgh highs will rise from 58°F on Thursday to a warm 74°F on Sunday. Latrobe will reach 71°F on Saturday before reaching its peak of 73°F on Sunday. Other communities throughout the region will also get the spring-like conditions, with New Castle and Washington predicted to reach the low 70s.
The warm-up won’t be without a bit of rain, however. Showers are forecasted Friday and Saturday, bringing much-needed moisture to areas that have been drier than normal in the past few weeks. Though the rain might be a bit of a nuisance, it’s a good trade-off for the lovely weekend on the horizon.
If you’re out and about, keep an eye on changing conditions. Roads may get slick during the rain, so take care if you’re driving. And don’t forget to layer up—it may feel like spring by midday, but mornings will still carry a cool chill.
This heatwave is likely to persist through Sunday. By next week, temperatures may drop back to their seasonal averages, so bask in the sun while you can.
