According to the County of San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office, a ninth-year-old girl in the state of California passed away following a dental procedure that she underwent while she was under the influence of anaesthesia.
A news release issued by the medical examiner’s office included an address for Dreamtime Dentistry, which was the location where Silvanna Moreno’s surgery took place on March 18. The procedure was performed at a dentist office in Vista. Subsequent to the surgical procedure, she was transferred to a recovery room and then discharged.
According to a statement that was provided to CBS 8 San Diego by Dr. Ryan Watkins, a dentist anaesthesiologist with Dreamtime Dentistry, Moreno “was discharged in stable condition — awake, with stable vital signs and protective reflexes intact — into her mother’s care.” This statement was made in response to the fact that standard post-anesthesia protocols were adhered to.
On the other hand, according to the office of the medical examiner, she “remained asleep during her transport home” and “stayed sleeping” when she was placed into her bed at home. The family of the nine-year-old child checked on her throughout the day, “to later find her unresponsive in bed,” as stated in the press release.
She was taken to the emergency area of Rady Children’s Hospital, where she was subsequently confirmed dead. Moreno’s family called 911 to request assistance, and first responders rushed her there.
When asked to provide more information about Moreno’s condition after she was discharged from the hospital, the office of the medical examiner did not immediately answer.
The circumstances surrounding the death of the young girl are still being looked into. Watkins stated that the dental clinic was providing one hundred percent cooperation to the investigation.
Since the beginning of our organisation, the health and safety of our patients has been and will continue to be our first priority. As the inquiry continues, we respectfully request that you have patient with us, even though we are aware of the concerns and issues that have been raised in relation to this unfortunate event,” Watkins added. “For the sake of the family and the integrity of the process, we encourage restraint regarding speculation.”
Thursday, March 26, CBS 8 reported that a funeral service for Moreno was held on Wednesday.
