Prosecutors claim that Kylee Monteiro sent her sister a terrifying text message the day before she vanished.
The pregnant Rehoboth teen allegedly texted her boyfriend, Gregory Groom, 22, on August 6th, saying, “He threw me on the ground and pulled my hair and strangled me.”
At 4%, my phones “It was Greg if I died,” she continued.
Authorities reported on Tuesday that they had found human remains consistent with 18-year-old Monteiro, who had been missing for almost two weeks, during a search of Groom’s Rehoboth house. According to the prosecution, Groom spoke with detectives earlier in the day and confessed to killing Monteiro by stabbing her. He also provided a hand-drawn map that showed investigators where her corpse was.
Groom was charged with murder, domestic assault and abuse, assault and battery on a pregnant person, and witness intimidation when he was arraigned in Taunton District Court on Wednesday. He was ordered to be jailed without bail after entering a not guilty plea.

Pregnant Rehoboth teen missing, last seen at boyfriend s house
Assistant District Attorney Jason Mohan claims that Groom informed cops that Monteiro had left his house after a fight and reported him missing to Rehoboth police on August 8. Additionally, he told officials that Monteiro was approximately eleven weeks pregnant.
According to court documents, Groom talked to police about his daily disputes and his deteriorating relationship with Monteiro. According to reports, he admitted to at least one previous physical altercation.
According to court documents, Monteiro’s sister informed investigators that her last communication with the teenager was a text message on August 7 asking whether Monteiro would spend the night with Groom.
Using cadaver dogs and divers, officials examined Groom’s 25-acre property last week, but Mohan stated in court that nothing noteworthy was discovered. Groom allegedly acknowledged pushing Monteiro during their dispute on August 6 that caused her to fall back and strike her head when he met with investigators at the Rehoboth Police Department on Tuesday.
According to Mohan, investigators kept asking Groom where Monteiro was and told him that they had a search warrant for his house on County Street and would be bringing in excavators.
The prosecutor then recalled that Mr. Groom halted.
According to Mohan, Groom drew a crude map when asked to direct detectives to Monteiro’s body. He also allegedly acknowledged that he and Monteiro had argued behind a shed on the property and that he had used a kitchen knife to stab her twice, once in the neck and once in the chest.
According to Mohan, the knife’s blade was really broken off by the stab wound to the chest.
According to the prosecutor, Mr. Groom told the police that he then dug a hole in the forest for several hours, about 20 yards from the spot where he killed Ms. Monteiro. He then shoved her body into the hole and covered it up when the sun rose.
Mohan claims that at the location of the purported attack, officials discovered tangible evidence, including blood. According to him, the body thought to be Monteiro’s was found five feet below the surface, with a chopped tree and brush pile hiding the grave.
According to Mohan, the remains are currently being identified and an autopsy is being performed by the state’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
However, following Wednesday’s arraignment, Bristol District Attorney Thomas Quinn stated at a news conference that all the evidence now leads to the defendant killing her, as you heard in court. When asked why law enforcement hadn’t provided the public with frequent updates during the investigation into Monteiro’s disappearance, he likewise resisted.Quinn added that substantial resources were used over the course of the last 10 to 12 days of this case, which resulted in his detention. Quinn stated that investigations are not carried out in public. Unfortunately, it appears that everyone wants to know what’s happening as it happens in today’s world. That isn’t how investigations operate.
On Wednesday morning, Groom’s defense lawyer could not be reached for comment. On September 10, he is scheduled to return to court for a hearing on probable cause.
A candlelight vigil in honor of Monteiro is scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. at 401 Winthrop St. in Rehoboth by her family and friends.
One of the teen’s sisters, Kitty Monteiro, posted on Facebook, “I know this is not the ending we all wanted, but for us, it’s closure and it gives Kylee the chance to rest in peace with her mom and her baby.”
“I think it’s a good time to remind everyone to check in with people on a regular basis, tell them you love them whenever you can, take pictures every day, and never forget that people love you,” she continued. So many people.
