An Illinois man was arrested for allegedly attacking a pregnant woman with a lit “blunt” – also called a marijuana cigar — which he allegedly made her swallow in bizarre midday attack that also involved him attempting to wash the victim’s feet for unknown reasons, police say.
I have to wash your feet,” Benjamin Schroeder, 25, is accused of saying to the woman before making her remove the blazing hot cigar, which burned her throat, the local ABC affiliate WTVO reported.
It’s not known how Schroeder knows the woman, with police classifying the March 10 event as a domestic battery. The victim reported to authorities that she had been burned and strangled by Schroeder two days prior to his blunt assault. Schroeder and the woman share a residence in the 100 block of Lawrence Street in Cherry Valley, roughly 75 miles northwest of Chicago north toward the Wisconsin border.
The woman reported being in bed when Schroeder attacked her around noon, pulling her by the wrists to an upstairs bathroom, according to police.
There, he began allegedly choking her and told the woman her feet would need to be washed prior to his attack, WTVO states. Doctors treated the victim for throat burns; the baby was not injured.
Schroeder, arrested in Wisconsin by the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, is charged with two counts of pregnant woman aggravated battery, domestic battery resulting in bodily harm and aggravated battery causing strangulation. He was released on pretrial Tuesday and is set for his first court appearance.
