Police say a 28-year-old guy was caught near Tucson after he fled the scene of a double shooting in Phoenix and went east on Interstate 10.

The call for police in Phoenix came in at 2 a.m. about a shooting near 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road. When they got there, they saw two people who had been shot but were not in danger of dying. Police say the two told them that the killing happened at a nearby home.

Luis Lopez Gutierrez, the suspect, drove away from the scene of the crime and was later caught going east on I-10 toward Tucson.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety followed Gutierrez until he set up a blockade near Cortaro, an area between Marana and Tucson. This caused the ]I-10 lanes to be closed.

Phoenix police said Gutierrez was arrested. Among other felonies, he was charged with aggravated assault, trespassing, disorderly behavior with a firearm, and more.

By 7:30 a.m., the westbound lanes of I-10 near the accident were open again after being stopped for almost an hour and a half. The Arizona Department of Transportation said on X (formerly Twitter) that the northbound lanes are now open again.
