Paul Pierce declares himself the ‘best pure scorer ever’ in NBA

In his own right, Paul Pierce is a Hall of Famer.

However, the Celtics icon and 2008 NBA Finals MVP has also been known to steal headlines with some grandiose declarations and foolish remarks.

Pierce, a TV pundit, went viral after predicting that the Celtics would defeat the Knicks in the 2025 Eastern Conference Semifinals. He also credited himself with helping LeBron James advance after several playoff encounters with the Cavaliers and Heat.

However, The Truth’s appearance on FS1’s Speak last week truly made an impression. Pierce made a daring statement about his own offensive arsenal during a panel discussion on James’ remarks that the NBA hasn’t produced a scorer as talented as Kevin Durant.

Pierce stated on FS1 that he was “probably the best pure scorer in the league’s history because I was pretty equipped.” Upon reflection, all I’m saying is that I must participate in this discussion.

Throughout his 19-year NBA career, Pierce averaged 19.7 points per game, making him an outstanding player. Pierce was able to make 3-point shots in addition to sinking mid-range jumpers and scoring in the paint.

However, it seems like Pierce is the only one who would rate Pierce higher than other offensive standouts like James, Durant, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Steph Curry, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Pierce never won a scoring title in his career, but his best season was in 2005–06, when he averaged 26.8 points per game, despite having a lot of scoring plays in his toolbox.

When it comes to his reputation as one of the best players of his time in Springfield, Pierce’s resume speaks for itself.

However, there is little evidence to support his assertions that he possesses a more potent offensive skill set than players like Jordan, Durant, James, and others.
