You already know how crazy our weather is if you’ve lived in the Ozarks for a while. It hasn’t rained much over the past three months, well below the normal amount. Now, early forecasts say that November will begin with a heavy rainstorm.
It’s likely that storms will come with a cold front that moves through Wednesday night. This will set off the train of Gulf moisture that will bring it to the Ozarks.
The front that moves through on Wednesday could drop an inch or more over the Ozarks.
The rain train comes into the Ozarks on Saturday. When more than seven days are away, models are typically hard to predict. As the event gets near, you can see trends in the models that were made this early on. From Saturday to Wednesday, all of the models agree that it will rain a lot in eastern Oklahoma, Kansas, western Missouri, and Arkansas.
The exact amounts won’t be known for a while, but it looks like Saturday through Wednesday, November 6, 2024, will be a heavy rain event. It might rain a few inches. On August 13, 2024, Springfield got 1.09 inches of rain, which was the last time it rained more than an inch in one day.
Over the past few months, our western areas have been very dry, which has made the drought worse. The ground can turn into concrete-like when it dries out from the weather. When it rains a lot, the water can’t soak in and runs off.
