NEW YORK —
On Saturday, a puppy found swimming in the East River was rescued near the South Street Seaport.
The puppy, nicknamed Hudson, is in the care of Animal Care Centers of NYC, where staff continue to wait for an owner to come forward. If the owner does not come forward after the third day, she will be put up for adoption.
“Hudson joins about 160 other dogs that we have right now,” said Hansen. “We are packed. We are at double capacity. We encourage people to come in and adopt from us.”
Pet adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis. To adopt, you must be 18 years or older, have a photo ID, and show proof of your current residence and proof that you can have animals if you rent your apartment or house. If children reside in your home, they must attend the Care Center and participate in the adoption process.
ACC counselors will help you choose a pet that fits your lifestyle. Adoption fees range from $25 to $400.

- Manhattan Animal Care Center
- Adoption center: 323 East 109th Street
- Adoption hours: Monday to Friday from 12 to 6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Queens Animal Care Center
- 1906 Flushing Avenue, Ridgewood
- Adoption hours: Monday to Friday from 12 to 6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Staten Island Animal Care Center
- 3139 Veterans Road West, Staten Island
- Adoption hours: Monday and Tuesday from 12 to 4 p.m., and Wednesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
