After confessing to filming himself performing sex acts on cafeteria utensils and dousing food that kids and staff were eating with bleach, a New Jersey school caretaker faces jail time.
According to a news release from the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office, Giovanni Impellizzeri, 25, was sentenced on Friday to eight years in jail, five of which he must complete before he can be released. He will spend the remainder of his life on probation after serving his prison term.
When the Elizabeth F. Moore School in Upper Deerfield Township received information in the autumn of 2023 regarding a man who was eventually identified as Impellizzeri posting multiple recordings of himself acting inappropriately in the school on Telegram, the investigation got underway. According to a probable cause arrest complaint, the recordings showed him wiping his penis and anus on a number of objects. He repeated the action, spitting on many slices of bread before returning them to a container where kids were being served them. They also showed him urinating and masturbating on cafeteria bowls and pillows. He was shown by another to spray cucumbers with bleach.
Several of the films were saved by Telegram users, who then sent them to the school, which promptly notified the police. The individual on the films was identified by police as Impellizzeri, who had been employed by the school district for around four years. Any cutlery or other objects that Impellizzeri had handled were thrown away by the school.
The caretaker was accused by the prosecution of official misconduct, tampering with meals, and serious violence. Impellizzeri was also charged with possessing child sexually abusive material, which was discovered during a follow-up investigation.
The defendant entered a guilty plea in January to counts of official misconduct and possession of child sexually harmful material.
A parent of a student in the school system testified in court during Friday’s sentencing hearing about the terrible effects Impellizzeri’s actions had on them.
According to Philadelphia NBC affiliate WCAU, Marisol Perez Cruz declared, “I am disgusted by what this man did to all our children.” “It hurts me to know that my child wasn’t safe in one place where I thought she was.”
Peter Koza, the superintendent of Upper Deerfield School, also spoke to the court.
According to local ABC affiliate WPVI, Koza stated, “What our students, our staff, parents, and our children had to endure is unconscionable, and we cannot change what happened.”
Impellizzeri expressed regret for his behaviour, stating that there is “no excuse” for it.
I’m really sorry about it. “I wish I could go back in time and stop doing it, but I know I have to pay for it now that it’s done,” he added.
His attorney informed WCAU that although her client is not a nasty person, she has taken responsibility for her actions.
