North Texas Braces for Widespread Showers and Potentially Severe Storms This Weekend

NORTH TEXAS – An alert has been sent out for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday because of the widespread rain and the chance of strong storms in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

At 75.7 degrees, October was the hottest month on record in Dallas-Fort Worth. It was also the ninth driest month on record. Even though it’s not ideal for the weekend to have cool rain, the change in the weather trend is definitely welcome.

There was enough moisture in the air on Saturday morning for it to be foggy, which made it very hard to see in the whole area. The moist airmass is still in North Texas, so as the day goes on, a few showers and a few strong storms may happen.

It will likely rain and snow again until Sunday, but there will be a few bigger thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening.

There is a good chance that a few strong storms will hit counties in the northwest. The rest of the area will only have a small chance of damaging winds and big hail. Hail, strong winds, and even a tornado are the major things to worry about in the afternoon and evening.

A front will move from west to east in the afternoon and evening of Monday. The frontal passage will hit a place that is good for severe weather, which will once again make the scattered possibility across North Texas higher. When and how strong the storms are will rest a lot on how unstable the front is and when it moves. No matter what, now is the time to get ready.

Along with the chance of strong storms, the ground will be very dry when the heavy rain hits. The dry ground will have a hard time soaking up all the rain that falls over the next 72 hours.

For the next few days, it will rain 2 to 3.5 inches north of the I-20 area and 1 to 2 inches south of it until Tuesday morning, making floods a bigger problem.

Things will clear up in North Texas just in time for Tuesday afternoon, which is good news.

The middle of the week will be nice, but the next front will likely make things busier again on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
