North Carolina Woman Accused of Punching 6-Week-Old Baby and Abandoning Her in Cold Car During Work Shift

After reportedly leaving her six-week-old child in her car while working a shift at McDonald’s, a mother from North Carolina was taken into custody.

On December 2, police filed two arrest warrants for 21-year-old Nikita Jones on one count of misdemeanor child abuse and one count of felony intentional child abuse inflicting significant physical injury.

In addition to leaving her newborn unattended in her car, where authorities claim the temperature was only 40 degrees, Jones allegedly smacked the infant in the face, causing obvious bruises around her eyes, according to the arrest warrants, according to WRAL.

According to the police, Jones left her infant in the car on November 21 and shut it off when she entered the Raleigh McDonald’s to begin her shift.

According to the warrants, the girl had scratches, bruises, and swelling on her face from the day before, Nov. 20, when Jones hit her infant.

It was unclear how long the infant had been in the car before she was discovered, and there were no details provided on her current condition.

According to court documents obtained by local a news outlet, Jones was arrested and placed on a $5,000 secured bond for the misdemeanor and a $50,000 secured bond for the felony.

She will be arraigned on the felony offense on December 10th, her next court date. Her next court date for the misdemeanor is December 19.
