NFC East is the only division with four Black starting quarterbacks

Written by Itoro Umontuen

This season, the NFC Eastern Division of the National Football League will be the first to field four starting quarterbacks who are Black or African-American. The Washington Commanders, Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and New York Giants are expected to start quarterbacks Jayden Daniels, Jalen Hurts, Dak Prescott, and Russell Wilson, respectively.

Following the Eagles’ victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans, Hurts will make his sixth trip back to Philadelphia. Hurts threw for 2,903 yards, completed 68.9% of his throws, and recorded 32 total touchdowns (18 passing, 14 rushing) in the 2024 season. Hurts became well-known in the NFL by focusing on what matters most.Hurts did not wear the ring during the Super Bowl ring ceremony. “I moved on,” he said.

Hurts declared, “I’ve moved on to the new year.” That is all there is to it.

That embodies the Mamba Mentality, which was popularized by the late, great Kobe Bryant.

Daniels cements the Commanders

After leading his team to an appearance in the NFC Championship game the previous season, Jayden Daniels comes to Washington with high hopes. The league was blown away by his development in his debut season. Daniels passed for 25 touchdowns and 3,568 yards in 2024. In addition, he gained 6 touchdowns and 891 rushing yards, earning him the title of Offensive Rookie of the Year. As he gets ready for year two, Daniels reports that he is becoming more accustomed to the system following the first week of training camp.

Daniels stated, “It’s being more at ease in the offense.” I know what Kliff is requesting and what our offensive aims to achieve. I have a variety of tools in my toolbox to access various protections and runs in relation to particular looks.

The resurgence of interest in the District’s Commanders comes as the D.C. City Council authorized a plan to build a new stadium on the site of RFK Stadium.

Josh Harris, Managing Partner at Washington Commanders, stated that this is a historic occasion. Creating a top-notch stadium that is appropriate for our players, supporters, and the area is only one goal of this project. It aims to restore an important area of our city, provide thousands of jobs, and open up long-term financial advantages for the District. To realize this vision, we are eager to collaborate with our supporters, locals, elected authorities, and community leaders.

Dak Prescott is always under pressure 2025 is no different

As long as Jerry Jones serves as the team’s owner, general manager, and primary promoter, the Dallas Cowboys will continue to be significant. When Prescott wears the star on his helmet, the spotlight is at its greatest. Criticism is also nothing new to him. Fans bemoaned on social media that Prescott might only ever wear the engagement ring throughout his playing career after he got engaged last season. The head wearing the crown is heavy. For his part, Prescott is starting the first year of a $240 million contract deal that will pay him over $60 million annually. The Cowboys are focused on winning right now. But would Prescott’s contract put them in a tight spot?

Can Russell Wilson be a bridge for the Giants?

In order to stabilize the quarterback room, Russell Wilson inked a one-year deal with the New York Giants during the summer. As a backup, Jameis Winston was also signed. During Monday’s news conference, head coach Brian Daboll stated that Wilson has benefited Giants top receiver Malik Nabers.

According to Matt Citak of the team’s website, Daboll stated on Tuesday that Wilson had a really beneficial effect on Malik. In terms of body maintenance, how Russ takes care of his body, and the things he has done to have a long career, they spend a lot of time in the meeting room and then spend time outside. They have a fantastic relationship. He’s really involved, asks a lot of questions, and seems to have grasped that. communicative, discussing Malik at the meetings.

The Giants are anticipated to select Wilson (and perhaps Winston) this season as Dart sits, despite the fact that they selected Jaxson Dart in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. The Giants offensive line must allow the 36-year-old quarterback time even though Wilson isn’t as elusive as he once was. For Wilson to execute play action throws, which he is excellent at, the running game must also be productive.

Sixteen Black quarterbacks started in the NFL last season. Justin Fields, Lamar Jackson, Jordan Love, Patrick Mahomes II, Kyler Murray, Michael Penix Jr., Anthony Richardson, Geno Smith, CJ Stroud, Cam Ward, Deshaun Watson, Caleb Williams, and Bryce Young joined Daniels, Hurts, Prescott, and Wilson.
