New England has 2 of the most colorful small towns in America, according to Fodor’s Travel

According to Fodor’s Travel, two little villages in New England are a great place to go for a colorful vacation.

Provincetown, Massachusetts, and Ogunquit, Maine, were among the 15 most colorful little towns in America listed by the website on Wednesday.

What gives the impression that a community is particularly colorful? Maybe it’s a strong sense of character. An atmosphere that brightens the mood? A passion for the arts and encouragement of the creative community? According to Fodor’s Travel, it’s actually a synthesis of these three traditions and more.

Cape Cod’s Provincetown, sometimes referred to as P-town, is a place that is vibrant in every way, including its history, architecture, people, and personalities.

As the nation’s longest continuously operating art colony, Provincetown boasts a rich creative past, according to Fodor’s. Its coastal village has been a haven for artists, poets, writers, playwrights, and curators for more than a century.

Cond Nast Traveler named the coastal village on the northern tip of Cape Cod one of the seven most popular LGBTQ destinations in America, TripsToDiscover.com named it one of the best tiny beach towns in America, and Expedia named it one of the ten friendliest towns in America.

Fodor stated that Ogunquit, a beach village, is a riot of color, as though the whole town had been taken directly from a warm and nostalgic watercolor painting.

It’s a wonderland of colors, the website noted, from the charming pastel-painted clapboard cottages with bursting window boxes to the vibrant art galleries and seafood shacks to The Marginal Way, a cliffside path covered in deep sea blues and wildflowers.

Ogunquit Beach was ranked as one of the top 25 beaches in the United States by Tripadvisor, and the LGBTQ+-friendly community was designated one of the 13 underappreciated tourist destinations in 2025 by AAA.

Other towns on the list are Strasburg, Virginia; Anna Maria Island, Florida; and Tannersville, New York.
