Jackson, MS – Dense fog advisory is currently in place this morning for locations along and south of Interstate 20, with visibility projected to diminish considerably until 9 a.m. CDT.
Hattiesburg, Brookhaven, Natchez, Laurel, and Vicksburg counties are under limited to elevated fog threats, according to the National Weather Service in Jackson, MS. Elevated areas can expect visibility of a quarter-mile or less, while those under a limited threat can expect visibility to decrease to between one-half and a quarter mile.
The fog, which formed overnight, is to clear gradually by mid-morning. Motorists are asked to slow down, give themselves more time to travel, and use low beam headlights in low-visibility areas. The advisory covers major travel routes, such as sections of I-20, I-55, and U.S. Highway 49.
The threat of fog this morning is not uncommon for early spring in southern Mississippi, particularly under recent humidity and light overnight winds.
Commuters are advised to exercise extreme care when driving in rural and low-lying places where the fog is likely to accumulate and linger.
For continuing updates, motorists should stay tuned to messages issued by the National Weather Service and local news media. Conditions should clear to midmorning visibility, but caution continues to be advised.
