Minneapolis Man Sentenced to Prison for Neighbor's Murder Amid Ongoing Dispute

The man from Minneapolis was given 20 years in jail for killing his neighbor, with whom he had a long-running argument.

Walter Lee Hill, 59, got 240 months in prison on Friday for shooting and killing Donald Edmondson in his flat last year. Hill admitted to killing someone on purpose in the second degree on October 21 and now has 337 days of time served.

Mary Moriarty, the prosecutor for Hennepin County, said, “Mr. Edmondson should still be alive.” “A violent act that Mr. Hill did without thinking about it has taken him away from his family.”

“This sentence helps hold people accountable and keeps our community safe. I hope it gives Mr. Edmondson’s family some peace as they try to move on with their lives.”

The shooting is said to have happened at Edmondson’s flat at 2623 West Broadway Avenue in Minneapolis on November 24, 2023, just before 3 p.m.

A call came in saying that someone had been shot on the second floor a few minutes before. They went to the second floor when they got there and saw that the door to apartment 204 was open.

When police arrived, Edmondson was lying face down on the floor inside. There was a big pool of blood under his head from a gunshot wound to his chest, where the bullet had come out of his back. Even though paramedics tried to save his life, they finally said he was dead.

Police talked to a person who said they saw Hill, who lived in the building, shoot Edmondson. A second person who saw what happened told police that the two guys were still fighting.

Hill had already talked to MPD officers the month before when he said he thought his neighbors were breaking into his flat through the crawlspace.

Police watched surveillance video at the scene of the crime, which shows Hill going up to Edmondson’s apartment and knocking on the door. Then, with his right hand, he pulls something out of the front pocket of his sweater that looks like a gun and points it at the apartment door.

He is seen pointing the gun at Edmondson’s apartment door and hitting it. Then he turns around and walks back the way he came. Near 11th Avenue South and 14th Street East in Minneapolis, Hill’s empty car was found. That’s where he was caught while walking back to his car.

One of the officers searched Hill and asked someone to find his ID to make sure they had the right person. Hill told the officer, “You have the right person.”
