A Michigan woman accused of killing her 3-year-old son alongside her then-boyfriend has pleaded guilty nearly seven years after the child’s death.
Authorities said 33-year-old Amanda Maison admitted to second-degree homicide in the 2018 killing of her son, Matthew Maison, during a court appearance on Wednesday, November 5. The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office announced her plea in a statement last week.
The Case
Matthew was found dead in his bed on February 18, 2018, in his Port Huron Township home after his babysitters discovered his body. The boy’s death sparked a years-long investigation that ultimately led to the April 2025 arrests of Amanda and her former boyfriend, Maurice Houle, then 28.

Prosecutors alleged the pair killed Matthew “to make room for a child that the two of them could have together,” according to St. Clair County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Joshua Sparling, as reported by ClickOnDetroit. Both initially faced first-degree murder charges and pleaded not guilty.
Shocking Details
During her plea hearing, Amanda admitted she had abused Matthew, including pushing his head into a wall as part of what she described as a “military time-out.” She also acknowledged she had enabled Houle’s abuse, concealed it from child protective services and police, and helped hide the truth about the child’s death.
According to investigators, both Amanda and Houle allegedly confessed to abusing the child when they were arrested earlier this year.
What’s Next
As part of her plea deal, Amanda has agreed to testify against Houle when his trial begins in early 2026.
Her sentencing date has not yet been announced.
