The California Lottery reports that a $197.5 million winning Mega Millions ticket will expire this weekend.
Lottery players are encouraged to look for the ticket, which was sold at the same Chevron gas station in Encino and was one of two Mega Millions jackpot wins from December 2023.
The drawing on December 8, 2023, yielded Mega Ball 13, 21, 26, 53, 66, and 70 as the winning numbers.
Unless the winner steps forward to claim the reward, the California Lottery will not be able to get in touch with the individual whose ticket has already been used, and the other ticket expires on Saturday.
“We have no way of knowing who has the second jackpot-winning ticket from that incredible night,” Carolyn Becker from the California Lottery stated.
The winner can pick up the prize at any of the nine California Lottery district offices by 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, or they can mail a completed claim form to the lottery’s headquarters in Sacramento with a postmark before the deadline.
According to state lottery laws, the winnings will be donated to California public education if they go unclaimed.
‘While it’s a shame for potential winners to see any winning ticket expire, it does give a helpful boost to California public schools,” Becker stated. “We can still feel good about it at the end of the day.”

The Mega Millions jackpot is currently increasing; the projected $579 million is the grand prize for Friday. According to officials, California’s public schools receive around 80 cents for every $2 sold.
