In order to help families that are in danger, the state of Illinois has announced a program to help people who don’t have safe housing with their finances.
Renters who meet certain requirements will be able to get a one-time payment of USD 6,500 through this program. This will help a lot as living and renting costs continue to rise.
This benefit is intended for families with children enrolled in Chicago Public Schools who are in temporary housing situations.
The main goal of the program is to make sure that the most affected families across the state are stable and that their quality of life improves.
Requirements to Qualify for the USD 6,500 Bonus
To be eligible for this financial assistance, families must meet the following criteria:
- Must not have permanent housing in Illinois.
- Must have at least one child enrolled in the Students in Temporary Living Situations (STLS) program before December 9, 2024.
- The student or their guardian must be registered in state assistance programs, such as SNAP, TANF, or state food assistance, before March 9, 2025.
- Must reside in one of the eligible counties, including Cook, Kane, Lake, Peoria, St. Clair, Will, and Sangamon.
Because of the ongoing housing crisis that affects thousands of people across the state, this program tries to protect the most vulnerable families and help them with money.
