The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they have re-signed nine-time All-Star Kyrie Irving. Per team policy, the terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Irving (6-2, 191) holds career averages of 23.7 points (.474 FG%, .394 3FG%, .888 FT%), 4.1 rebounds, 5.6 assists,1.3 steals and 34.5 minutes per game in 779 games (all starts) with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics,Brooklyn Nets and Mavericks. In 128 games with Dallas, Irving has averaged 25.5 points (.490 FG%, .404 3FG%, 917 FT%), the second-highest scoring average in franchise history (min. 100 games), along with 4.9 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.3 steals in 35.9 minutes. His 91.7% (475-518 FT) free throw percentage with Dallas is also the highest mark in team history (min. 100 games).
Irving averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 36.1 minutes in 50 games for the Mavericks in 2024-25 while shooting 47.3% (447-945 FG) from the field, 40.1% (144-359 3FG) from 3-point range and 91.6% (196-214 FT) from the foul line. He finished the season as the only player to average at least 20.0 points while shooting at least 45.0% from the field, 40.0% from 3-point range and 90.0% from the charity stripe.
The 33-year-old is a nine-time All-Star and three-time All-NBA selection and helped Cleveland to their lone NBA championship in 2016. Irving, who played in four NBA Finals (2015, 2016, 2017, 2024), also helped the Mavericks to their third conference title in 2024. Among his numerous accolades, Irving won the Three-point Content during All Star Weekend in 2013 and garnered All-Star Game MVP honors in 2014.
Upon the conclusion of the 2020-21 regular season, Irving became the ninth player in NBA history to join the 50-40-90 club after shooting 50.6% from the field, 40.2% from 3-point range and 92.2% from the free-throw line. In doing so, he became the fourth player to average over 25.0 points while making the 50-40-90 club, joining Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and Larry Bird.
Irving was selected by Cleveland as the first overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft after one season at Duke, where he averaged 17.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game in 11 games. As a high school senior at St. Patrick High School (NJ) in 2010, Irving was selected to the First Team All-America by Parade Magazine and USA Today and was named a McDonald’s All-American and a finalist for the Naismith High School Player of the Year.
Born in Melbourne, Australia, while his father was playing professional basketball for the Bulleen Boomers, Irving moved to the United States when he was two years old. He represented the U.S. national team in international competition and helped the Americans win a gold medal at the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain and 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
Irving was originally acquired by Dallas along with Markieff Morris from the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, a 2029 first-round pick and two future second-round picks on Feb. 6, 2023. He later signed with Dallas on July 7, 2023.
