MANTECA — A Manteca police officer is charged with sexually assaulting an inebriated individual off duty in the city of Ripon, police said Monday.
Officer Ryan Castro was arrested and booked into the San Joaquin County on Monday. He is charged with oral cop of intoxicated person, digital penetration of intoxicated person and assault with intent to commit sexual offense, the Manteca Police Department said.
The crimes supposedly occurred in April 2024. Manteca police reported being notified by the Ripon police on May 1 that Castro was being investigated.
Castro, 36, was promptly put on administrative leave and surrendered himself to jail after the investigation was completed and the San Joaquin County Disrict Attorney’s Office filed the charges.
The following statement was given by the district attorney’s office after Castro was booked into jail:

Officer Castro, like any citizen, will be held accountable for his actions as the legal process unfolds. We will continue to work hard to uphold the integrity of our justice system and ensure that the facts of this case are fully explored in court.”
Manteca police stated that Castro has been working with the department since June of 2018 and was a deputy with the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office before joining.
