A man with a long criminal history and a reputation for bizarre and inappropriate behavior was arrested again this week for allegedly sniffing a woman in public—this time inside a Walmart in Burbank, California.
Calese Carron Crowder, 38, of Glendale, was taken into custody on Tuesday by officers from the Burbank Police Department. Crowder, a registered sex offender currently on active parole, is facing charges related to loitering with intent to commit a crime after his latest incident.
Incident at Empire Center Walmart
Police initially responded to a call from Nordstrom Rack, located in the Empire Center shopping plaza, after receiving a report about a suspicious man loitering in the women’s department.
- When officers arrived, the man had already left the store.
- He was later located at the nearby Walmart, in the same shopping center.
- Using the store’s security camera system, officers tracked his movements through various departments.
According to authorities, Crowder was seen following a woman into the women’s department, crouching behind her, and then inappropriately sniffing her buttocks in what was described as lewd behavior.
Police confronted Crowder at the scene and detained him shortly after.
History of Similar Crimes
Crowder’s latest arrest is part of a disturbing pattern of similar offenses:
- In August 2023, he made national headlines after being caught on video committing the same act at a Barnes & Noble in Burbank. The footage went viral on TikTok.
- That same month, he was arrested for peeping into an occupied home in Glendale.
- Crowder was released due to jail overcrowding, but was re-arrested after failing to register with local authorities, as required for sex offenders.
His criminal record includes convictions for:
- Burglary
- Robbery
- Indecent exposure
- Prowling offenses
Crowder has reportedly been arrested multiple times in the past for sniffing women in public, behavior which has caused repeated concern within the community.
Current Status
Crowder is being held on $100,000 bail and is expected to appear in court on August 1. Authorities say he remains in custody as prosecutors review charges related to loitering with the intent to commit a crime.
His repeated offenses and past convictions have raised renewed questions about the enforcement of parole conditions and public safety concerns tied to repeat sex offenders.
