On Friday night, a shooting occurred inside a Little Caesars pizza restaurant in south Kansas City, killing one guy.
Officers from the Kansas City Police Department responded to the restaurant at 8700 Blue Ridge Blvd. around 8 p.m., according to Capt. Jake Becchina, a KCPD spokesperson. Becchina reported that they discovered an unresponsive male in the eatery with gunshot wounds.
According to Becchina, emergency medical personnel entered the premises and declared the individual deceased on the scene.
Police detained another man on the scene as a suspect. Becchina said the alleged shooter and victim appeared to know each other and had gotten into an altercation just before the shooting.
Becchina added that several other Little Caesars diners and employees observed the incident.
According to data compiled by The Star, Friday’s shooting was the 130th homicide reported in Kansas City in 2024, as well as the fifth this week. At this time last year, the city had reported 156 killings.
