Leroy Artemus Tolbert, III, 35, of Brownstown, Michigan, admitted to wire theft.
Court records and comments in court show that Tolbert worked with others to cheat Lowe’s Companies, Inc. and a number of stores, including West Virginia stores in Wheeling and Morgantown.
He also stole from shops in Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
Tolbert applied for a Lowe’s credit card under a fake business name and used someone else’s identity as an approved user. After that, he used the card to buy things worth thousands of dollars. The scam was worth a total of $100,000.
Tolbert has decided to make up for what he did by paying $100,000.
Tolbert could go to jail for twenty years. The sentence will be decided by a federal district court judge who will look at the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other legal issues.
