NEW MANKATO, Minn. – Following a fight at a Mankato bar over the weekend, a man from Minnesota is said to have tried to hit a group of people with his truck.
What We Know: Mankato police were called to an incident on East Walnut Street near South Front Street just after 1 a.m. on November 1.
Police say that people saw a man in a GMC truck try to run over a group.
How did it begin?
Police were told that the suspect, 41-year-old Huntley resident Jared Cartwright, was in a fight at a bar before the truck accident.
Someone who was there said Cartwright hit them and got kicked out of the bar. This person and his friends say that Cartwright was waiting for them in his truck when they left the bar.
Police say that Cartwright started a new argument outside the bar, which turned into a fight.
Reporters saw Cartwright get back in his truck and then drive “blazing” at the group, hitting six people as he went through a flower bed and onto the path. Some of the victims hid behind a column. It looks like the rest were able to move out of the way.
Police say that surveillance video shows the truck running up the path toward the group and then stopping all of a sudden.
What did he say?
Soon after what happened, Cartwright was pulled over in his truck. According to the charges, Cartwright told police that he got into a fight with “some young college kids,” but he denied trying to run anyone over.
During the interview, however, the cops saw that Cartwright seemed drunk. It is said that Cartwright admits to drinking four whiskeys at the bar.
The charges say that Cartwright’s blood alcohol level was 0.135 on the breath test.
What will happen next?
Monday, Cartwright was charged with several crimes, including attack with a dangerous weapon and driving while drunk.
