Long Island Kingpin Arrested after Weapons Stash Busted by Authorities

Authorities have arrested a Medford man in what Suffolk County officials are calling the largest ghost gun bust in the county’s history. Daniel Probeck, 35, was arraigned Wednesday after a months-long investigation revealed a massive homemade weapons operation allegedly run out of his home. Police seized over 110 firearms, dozens of suppressors, and 3D printers believed to be used for illegal gun production.

Key Findings from the Investigation:

  • Authorities recovered more than 110 firearms from Probeck’s Medford residence.
  • The search also uncovered nearly 70 suppressors, 12 3D printers, and a large cache of gun parts and ammunition.
  • Investigators say Probeck’s home operated as a makeshift weapons manufacturing site.

Charges and Allegations:

  • Probeck is charged with multiple counts of criminal sale and possession of firearms.
  • He allegedly sold four guns, including three assault rifles, to undercover officers between March and June 2025.
  • Prosecutors say the recovered weapons had banned features under New York law, such as threaded barrels, collapsible stocks, and flash suppressors.

Legal Proceedings and Defense:

  • Probeck pleaded not guilty and is being held on $500,000 cash bail, a $2 million bond, or a $3 million partially secured bond.
  • He is represented by attorney John Loturco and is scheduled to appear in court again on August 5.
  • Loturco stated that Probeck is a lifelong Suffolk resident with no prior criminal record and a father of two.

Potential Consequences:

  • If convicted on the top charge, Probeck faces up to 25 years in prison.
  • The District Attorney praised the joint effort between his office and local police in removing illegal weapons from the streets.
