AP/MINNEAPOLIS The Red Sox won 13-1 at Minnesota on Wednesday, Trevor Story hit his second home run in as many games, Jarren Duran went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs, and the team secured a series win.
Brayan Bello, the starter for the Red Sox, pitched seven innings and gave up four strikeouts while giving up one earned run on five hits. In nine of his last ten games, the Dominican right-hander has recorded a strong start.
At 59-51, Boston owns the fifth-best record in the American League and ended the month 17-7. Minnesota (51-57) is in fourth place in the AL Central and has a 4-8 record since the All-Star break.
In the second inning, Story gave Boston a 1-0 lead with his 17th home run of the season. Duran’s two-run single in the fifth inning ended starter Zebby Matthews’ day, and Abraham Toro’s RBI sacrifice fly in the third made it 4-1.
Matthews (2-3) struck out four batters while allowing five earned runs on eight hits.
Alex Bregman, the third baseman for the Red Sox, took a break to recover after his seven-week absence due to quadriceps strain. He should be back on Friday. Due to inflammation of his left rib cartilage, outfielder Byron Buxton was placed on the Twins’ 10-day injured list on Tuesday.
Carlos Correa, the shortstop for Minnesota, left Tuesday’s game due to a migraine and is listed as day-to-day.
In reference to the tumultuous charter flight that took the Red Sox to the Twin Cities on Sunday night, Duran rounded the bases with his arms extended to resemble an airplane after hitting a 416-foot home run to the second deck in right-center field in the sixth inning.
With a 2.94 ERA in July, the Red Sox were third in the majors and first in the AL going into Wednesday.
Thursday is a day off for both teams. Minnesota starts a six-game road trip in Cleveland on Friday, while the Red Sox play Houston in the first game of a six-game home stand.
